JAROD CERNOUSEK
COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION, FINE ARTS AND MEDIA
Theatre Major / Student Ambassador
Jarod Cernousek toured a lot of schools, but felt UNO was the obvious choice because of its connection to the city. Originally from a small, rural town three hours away, he knew Omaha would be a big change, but a good one.
“I wanted to go to a big city so I could spread my wings with new opportunities and adventures, and Omaha has delivered on that,” he said.
Jarod spends a lot of time in Elmwood Park and Aksarben, which are within walking distance from campus. He also loves going to the Old Market with friends on the weekends to check out different shops and restaurants. Being a performing art major, he enjoys Film Streams and the Dundee Theater who offer free student nights.
“There are always places to go, things to do, and people to see,” he said.
Jarod also chose to live on campus and enjoys the sense of community it provides.
“All of UNO’s dorms are super nice and the RA’s do a great job of keeping us involved whether that be game night or doughnuts for breakfast,” he said. “I found that to be a great way to get out and meet people in my building.”
To Jarod, the great thing about UNO is that never feels too small or too big.
“I see familiar faces every day, but still continue to meet new people. The balance has been perfect.”
