Athletic Training
For Tomohiro, sports and healthcare run in the family. Both he and his brother played baseball back home in Nagano, Japan, and any injuries they received would be treated by their dad, an acupuncturist. His background in both sports and healthcare fostered an interest in how the body works, and how to prevent injuries before treatment is even needed. He works alongside faculty in the UNO Pitching Lab to study motion and function of athletes.
“This work has allowed me to gain valuable experience working directly with baseball players, to learn more about their needs in-depth,” he said. Because of his work, Tomohiro was recognized with the prestigious Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society Dr. Clarence Livingood Scholarship, which supports graduate students who are pursuing athletic training. Tomohiro plans to pursue his Ph.D. in Biomechanics and continue his work in bringing the best possible healthcare to athletic training.
