Tips on Passing the New PMP Exam

If you’ve been putting off taking your Project Management Professional (PMP) test, procrastinate no more! Project-Management-November_1600x900The test is changing July 1, 2020, and you don’t want to be in the first group taking the new test. So now is the time to get that certification project started.

Former PMP exams had questions in each of the five process groups: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitor and Controlling and Closing. In the new test, the 200 questions will cover three areas that match the PMI’s Talent Triangle.

  • People (Leadership): 42%
  • Processes (Technical PM): 50%
  • Business Environment: 8%

People will include questions about tasks like:

  • Manage conflict
  • Lead a team
  • Empower team members and stakeholders
  • Negotiate project agreements
  • Engage and support virtual teams

Processes will include questions about tasks such as:

  • Execute project with the urgency required to deliver business value
  • Manage communications
  • Assess and manage risks
  • Plan and manage budget and resources
  • Determine appropriate project methodology/methods and practices

Business Environment will include questions about tasks like:

  • Plan and manage project compliance
  • Evaluate and deliver project benefits and value
  • Support organizational change

There will also be much more emphasis on the Agile methodologies. Half the test will focus on predictive methods and half will focus on Agile/Hybrid.

To accommodate those who want to get take the test before July 1, we’ve added two sessions of our popular PMP Exam Prep course. Classes are two consecutive Thursdays and Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, which gives you the 35 hours needed to sit the exam. Our pass rate is in the 95% range.
